[Updated] Hazmat Finds Nothing After Investigating 'Toxic Smell' on A Street

According to the Sheriff's Department, the unusual odor was reported around 8:40 a.m. near the 800 block of A Street.

After investigating a "toxic smell" reported Friday morning on A Street by a resident, Hazmat was "unable to find anything," the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

The unusual smell was reported just before 8:40 a.m. Friday and the Sheriff's Department and Ramona Fire Department/Cal Fire reported to the 800 block of A Street. Hazmat was called in hours later to investigate, but came up with no source for the smell.

The resident who reported the strange smell took himself to the hospital but was "fine," authorities said.

Hazmat has been called into Ramona to investigate a suspicious smell near the 800 block of A Street, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said Friday.

The "toxic smell" was reported just before 8:40 a.m. Friday, but authorities said the source was still not found at 2 p.m.

The Sheriff's Department and Ramona Fire Department/Cal Fire were on scene with Hazmat evaluating the situation, the Sheriff's Department said.

"It could be anything—from paint to natural gas," the department said.
