Teen 'Hot Prowl' Burglary Suspects Face Court Hearings Soon

Garrett Jackson and Skylor McGee pleaded not guilty in San Diego Country Estates cases.

Two teen-agers suspected in a series of “hot prowl” burglaries in San Diego Country Estates have pleaded not guilty to felony charges, authorities say.

Garrett Jackson, 18, and Skylor Rocky McGee, 19—both of Ramona—entered separate pleas at arraignments July 3 and June 27, respectively, according to Tanya Sierra, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office.

Preliminary hearings have been set for both—where a judge will decide if evidence exists to send them to trial.

McGee’s hearing is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday in El Cajon Superior Court, and Jackson’s is at 9 a.m. July 17 in the same court—Department 11 in El Cajon, Sierra said Thursday.

Jackson faces six charges—five felony counts, including burglary, identity theft and receiving stolen property, Sierra said. McGee faces two felony counts—burglary and receiving stolen property.

Readiness conferences are Friday for McGee and July 13 for Jackson.

Last month, sheriff’s Detective Thomas Seiver told about 150 people at Pocket Park that up to 16 of the residential burglaries had occurred since January.

“Hot prowls” are burglaries in which residents are home at the time.

He said the recent series began “roughly in January” and the burglars were getting “more sophisticated” and stealing more items.

Sierra said no attorneys have been assigned to the teen suspects.

Sheriff’s Lt. Julie Sutton told U-T San Diego that among the items stolen were credit cards, checks, wallets, cash from wallets, and small electronic items such as iPads, iPods, and cell phones.
