Sheriff's Dept. Meeting Tonight About Hot Prowls in Country Estates

Residents will discuss whether to set up a Neighborhood Watch group in the wake of 12 reported burglaries in the area while residents were in the homes.

Country Estates residents will gather at Pocket Park tonight to discuss the possible formation of a Neighborhood Watch program in the wake of a dozen reported "hot prowl" burglaries in the area since January.

A hot prowl is when an intruder enters a home while the residents are still home.

“These crimes happened during the overnight hours while the residents are asleep," according to a statement from the Sheriff's Department. "The suspects took items that were easy to carry such as wallets, iPads, jewelry, purses and entered homes through unlocked doors, windows and garage doors."

Ramona Sheriff's Lt. Julie Sutton has confirmed the meeting will take place. It will be at 6:30 p.m. at the park at Gunn Stage and Arena, according to Janice Baldridge, Marketing Coordinator for San Diego Country Estates Association.

The Sheriff's Department is warning residents throughout San Diego County to take precautions over the summer because burglars know that people tend to leave doors and windows open during the heat. A list of Summer Safety Tips is attached to this story.
