Sex Offender Arrested at Ramona Halloween Event Pleads Not Guilty

Danny Shaw appeared before a judge in El Cajon Superior Court Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to charges of failing to register as a sex offender.

A convicted sex offender in costume and face paint arrested at the Trick or Treat on Ramona Main Street event Halloween night plead not guilty Tuesday to charges of failing to register as a sex offender in San Diego.

Danny Shaw, 29, of Yucca Valley, was arrested by Ramona Sheriff's deputies on suspicion of felony sex offender registration violation and being a convicted sex offender in violation of annoying/molesting a minor under the age of 18.

Shaw appeared before a judge in El Cajon Superior Court Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to failure to register. Fox 5 reports that he's been busted before for failing to register as a sex offender.

He was seen by an off duty police officer at the Halloween event passing out candy while wearing white facepaint and was accused of annoying children, according to Sheriff's Sgt. Brent Strahm. Reports count as many as 10,000 people trick or treating on Main Street that night.

Prosecuting Deputy District Attorney Derek Grilz told Fox 5 that Shaw was convicted of a sexual offense in Oregon in 2003 and was convicted of failing to register when he moved to San Diego County in 2005. He said Shaw hasn't registered since.

Shaw will appear in court again on Nov. 19 and faces six years behind bars if convicted.
