Santa Ysabel Motorcycle Accident Results in Marine Fatality

The accident occurred Monday morning, where State Route 78 and State Route 79 converge.

A motorcyclist was killed today when he collided with another vehicle in rural Santa Ysabel south of Julian, a CHP dispatcher said.

According to the dispatcher, the incident occurred at 9:32 a.m. where State Route 78 and State Route 79 converge.

"A call came in of a motorcycle versus another vehicle and that the motorcyclist was badly injured and bleeding heavily," the CHP dispatcher said.

The motorcyclist, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the dispatcher.

According to the San Diego Medical Examiner's Office (MEO), the decedent was a 21 year-old male from Lakeside who was an active duty U.S. Marine. His name has been withheld pending family notification.

He attempted to pass vehicles ahead of him and struck a pickup truck who was making a left turn ahead, according to the MEO.
