Residents Extinguish Small Vegetation Fire Off Olive Street

Cal Fire said they are still investigating the cause of the fire.

A small vegetation fire broke out in a residential area shortly after 2 p.m. Monday afternoon, Ramona fire Department/Cal Fire said, but homeowners were able to extinguish it before help arrived.

Engineer/Paramedic Jared Andrade said the 75-foot spot that caught fire between two homes on Olive and Alice Streets, but residents used hoses to put out the flames quickly.

According to the engineer, an air attack, dozer and two helicopters were called in to help.

"The vegetation was starting to turn, but it wasn't too dry," Andrade said, noting the humidity level was at 35 percent.

A fence suffered minor damage, Cal Fire said, but no other damage was reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Andrade said.
