Ramonans Can Exchange Guns for Gift Cards May 18

Ramonans can head to San Marcos tomorrow to exchange their unwanted guns for a gift card.

If you have an unwanted gun, you can turn it in to deputies and get a gift card in return, no questions asked.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is hosting a Guns for Gift Cards event Saturday, May 18 at its San Marcos Station.  The exchange will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 182 Santar Place.

Uniformed deputies will hand out $50 Wal-Mart gift cards for shotguns, handguns and rifles and $150 gift cards for assault weapons. The Sheriff's Department will buy the gift cards using asset forfeiture funds. Anyone turning in a gun should place the unloaded firearm in the trunk of their car. A uniformed deputy or officer will give people further instructions at the location.

All weapons collected will be destroyed.

This event is being held in partnership with the Vista Sheriff's Station, District Attorney's Office,Escondido Police Department, Oceanside Police Department, Carlsbad Police Department and the Palomar College Police Department.
