Ramona Fire Station 82 Hosts 'Wills for Heroes' Event Saturday

Trained volunteer attorneys will be at the event, which will offer estate planning services and more to firefighters.

San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA) attorney members will volunteer their time and expertise to host a Wills for Heroes event at the Ramona Fire Station 82 on Saturday, June 8.

Through the program, attorneys will provide firefighters and their spouses with estate planning documents such as wills, powers of attorney, and advance directives (healthcare powers of attorney) at no charge, as part of the national Wills for Heroes program.

“The SDCBA is proud to host a Wills for Heroes event for the Ramona firefighters and be able to give back to those who do so much to keep our community safe,” said Marcella McLaughlin, SDCBA President. “By providing pro-bono estate planning documents, we hope to better prepare our first responders and their families should tragedy strike.”

Trained volunteer attorneys, as well as witnesses and notaries, will be at the Wills for Heroes event at the Ramona Fire Station. Estate planning services will be provided to firefighters solely on a voluntary basis and are free to qualified individuals (with estates valued at less than $500,000).

The free services for firefighters will be offered June 8, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at Ramona Fire Station 82, located near the corner of state Route 67 and Dye Road.

The national Wills for Heroes program was started shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to provide a means for attorneys to assist and support first responders. Read more about the project at the Wills for Heroes website.
