Ramona Fire Dept. Knocks Down Small Blaze at Teen Center

It is still unknown how the fire was started.

The cause of a small vegetation fire in the field at Ramona's Arriba Teen Center Tuesday night is still unknown, Ramona Fire Departmen/ Cal Fire Capt. Josh Black said.

According to the captain, five engines were dispatched to the center, which sits at 1710 Montecito Rd., just before 7 p.m. The blaze was roughly 50 by 100 feet and was knocked down in five minutes, Black said, noting that the forward spread was "very slow."

No structures were threatened.

Black said the fire was reported by a driver hauling a tractor. The driver gave a statement to both the fire and sheriff's departments that he didn't see anyone near the scene.

"Nothing has been confirmed yet, but typically, we get fires in that area that are started by humans," Black said, noting that transients will sometimes start fires in the creek bed nearby. "The cause of fire is still undetermined, though."
