Ramona Man, 22, Dies After Truck Overturns on San Vicente Road

A Ramona man died Wednesday night after the truck he was driving flipped on San Vicente Road, trapping him in the wreckage.

According to the county medical examiner's office, Kevin Birse, age 22, was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities at 10:45 p.m. Emergency responders confirmed death without resuscitative efforts.

The county news release states that the vehicle went out of control, left the roadway and overturned east of Wildcat Canyon Road. Birse was reported to have been wearing his seat belt.

Birse lived with his parents in Ramona.

Ramona Fire Department, paramedics, the California Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Department responded.

There is no word yet on what may have caused Birse to lose control of the vehicle. The Highway Patrol reports that the vehicle overturned several times on the wet road and hit a dirt-and-rock embankment, and that Birse sustained blunt force trauma to his head. There are no known witnesses. If anyone witnessed the crash, they are asked to call the Highway Patrol to provide information.

Residents reported that at least two motorists stopped at the scene before emergency responders arrived.

The accident happened on a straight stretch of road between Wildcat Canyon Road and the sign at the entrance to the San Diego Country Estates. Traffic was diverted after the accident. The vehicle came to rest by a driveway to a home.

The scene was cleared by about 1 am.
