Motorcyclist Killed in Accident on Highway 78 at Banner Grade

Single-vehicle crash fatal to woman on horseshoe curve a mile east of Julian, CHP reported.

A woman killed in a motorcycle accident on Highway 78 east of Julian was identified Sunday as a 39-year-old Irvine resident.

Julie Faith Fortier was riding west on the back of a motorcycle driven by her husband at about noon Saturday when they sideswiped another motorcycle going east on Highway 78 and crashed, according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The accident happened on a curve along the Banner Grade, with the motorcycle Fortier was on apparently crossing onto the wrong side of the road.

Three other motorcycle riders were injured in separate accidents in the East County Saturday, the U-T San Diego reported.
