Man Hit by a Pickup on Main Street Dies

Manuel Alba succumbs a day after he was struck by a pickup truck.

An 85-year-old man who was struck by a pickup truck as he crossed Main Street on Friday has died, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Manuel Alba was struck by the truck towing a wood chipper after apparently crossing the intersection of Main and Seventh streets at 7:47 a.m. Friday, according to the coroner.

Several people witnessed the accident and alerted authorities. Emergency crews transported Alba to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he died Saturday at 9:40 a.m. The coroner's office said Alba was a widower.
