Man Allegedly On Drugs Causes 9-Hour Stand-Off On Country Estates Rooftop

Raymond Ramos, 29, broke multiple windows before fleeing to a rooftop on Aug. 3

A 29-year-old man, allegedly on drugs, caused a nine-hour stand-off Saturday in the San Diego Country Estates after he damaged property and fled to a rooftop, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

Deputy Eric Garcia said a call was placed into the sheriff's department at 7:44 a.m. on Aug. 3 regarding a hot prowl at the 23000 block of Country Villa Road. According to the deputy, the suspect broke windows of a condo, but was chased away by the owner before entering the residence.

The man then went to a strip mall, located at the 23000 block of San Vicente Road and broke multiple windows in various businesses, Garcia said, before fleeing to a rooftop of a house located at the 16100 block of Arena Drive.

Allegedly on drugs, Raymond Ramos stayed on the rooftop for nearly nine hours, Garcia said, threatening to jump and throwing roof tiles at two cars, shattering their windshields.

The crisis negotiation team talked Ramos down without incident, according to Garcia, and he was arrested on probable cause of vandalism, the use of a controlled substance and a felony warrant under another agency.

Garcia said it is unknown what drugs Ramos took.
