Kayaker Who Died Saturday IDed as Ramona Man

Leonard Kevin Jones' body was recovered from the lake by San Diego Lifeguard divers Sunday morning, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

A kayaker who died on Lake Sutherland Saturday was identified today as a 57-year-old Ramona man.

Leonard Kevin Jones' body was recovered from the lake by San Diego Lifeguard divers Sunday morning, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

A city worker noticed an upside down kayak at Lake Sutherland Dam just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday, San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Christine Robbins said.

The city worker told authorities the man, who frequently fishes at the lake, had a heart condition, another sheriff's official said.

Robbins said deputies checked the shoreline and asked for a helicopter to help in the search. A search-and-rescue team was unable to find Jones before dark, and the search was resumed Sunday.

Jones was declared dead at 9:36 a.m. Sunday, according to the M.E.'s Office. An autopsy is pending.

Lake Sutherland, owned by the city, is about 45 miles northeast of downtown San Diego.

First and foremost, Leonard Jones WAS NOT FROM RAMONA!!!! Get your facts straight. Leonard was an avid fisherman who was out every weekend from the first thru the last of the season. Leonard was also an avid catch and release fisherman. HE DID NOT TAKE FISH HOME, IN FACT, HE DIDN'T EVEN LIKE TO EAT FISH!!!!!!! To summarize (for those who care about accuracy) Leonard was an amazing man, fisherman, friend and deeply cared about by many . Rest In Pease Leonard Kevin Jones. You're wife is there to meet you and lead you on your way thru paradise...
