Horse Struck, Killed By Car on Wildcat Canyon Road

The driver of the vehicle was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

A horse was killed Wednesday night after a car struck it on Wildcat Canyon Road, California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

According to the officer, an El Cajon woman in her 40s was traveling southbound on Wildcat Canyon Road around 35 miles per hour near mile marker 9.5, at 8:30 p.m.

A horse had stopped in the middle of the road and the woman tried to break, but couldn't stop in time and hit the "underneath" of the horse with her 2011 Chrysler convertible, Pearlstein said.

The horse, who Pearlstein said was not wild, was killed from the impact. The woman was transported with minor injuries to Memorial Sharp Hospital, the officer said.
