Helicopter Called to Borrego Springs to Assist Injured Hiker

The hiker may have broken her hip while hiking in Palm Canyon.

An injured hiker in Borrego Springs was taken out of Palm Canyon by helicopter Saturday afternoon after possibly breaking her hip, according to the sheriff's department.

Paramedics were able to reach the 61-year-old female in the canyon on foot. At 2:50 p.m., a helicopter crewed by sheriff’s and CalFire personnel landed in the canyon near the hiker, who was secured to a backboard, loaded onto the helicopter and flown to the Palm Canyon Campground near the trailhead. She was transferred to a Borrego Fire ambulance and taken to a hospital, according to the sheriff’s department. 

No information on the hiker’s condition was released.
