Five Deaths, 58 Suspected DUI Arrests in County Over Holiday Weekend
California Highway Patrol reports the number of deaths went up by one person over the same period last year.
California Highway Patrol reported five traffic deaths and 58 suspected drunken driving arrests in San Diego County over the New Year's holiday weekend.
The deaths were reported by law enforcement agencies in San Diego County between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, up one during the same period last year, the CHP said Monday.
Drunken driving arrests were down slightly from 60 during the same time frame last year.

Statewide, the CHP logged 22 traffic deaths, down from 25 recorded last year. Eleven of the deaths this year occurred in CHP jurisdictions and, in 10 instances, those killed were not wearing seat belts, according to the CHP.
Drunken driving arrests were up, with CHP officers arresting 1,181 people this year, compared to 961 last year.
