DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for December 22

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced they will conduct a DUI and safety checkpoint on Sunday, December 22, somewhere within the unincorporated area of East County.

“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on our local roadways by intoxicated or unlicensed drivers,” said Captain Tim Lepper, CHP El Cajon Area Commander.

The CHP said it will be targeting roads where there is a high frequency of intoxicated or unlicensed drivers, but didn't reveal the exact location.

"Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or driving unlicensed," said Captain Lepper.

"Our objective is to send a clear message to those individuals that consider driving and mixing alcohol or drugs, or drive when unlicensed, you will be caught and your vehicle will be towed away.”

The checkpoint will take place in an unincorporated part of East County, which is an area governed by the county instead of a city government, such as Ramona and the roads in and out of town.
