Deputies Arrest Auto Theft Suspect on 16th Street

The suspect was spotted driving a stolen vehicle and jumped out of the car before he was found and arrested.

Sheriff's deputies spotted a suspected auto thief Thursday night near Sun Valley Apartments in Ramona and subsequently chased and arrested the man, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

According to authorities, deputies spotted the suspect at 7:27 p.m. driving a green, Honda Civic that was reported stolen on July 29. The sheriff's department said the suspect jumped out of the stolen vehicle and ran off.

Calls came in from residents who had seen the suspect, sending deputies on a wild goose chase for the wanted man, the department said.

Authorities said deputies caught the man eventually at the 1600 block of 16th Street where the incident originally started.
