Costumed Sex Offender Arrested at Ramona Main Street Trick or Treat

Danny Shaw, 29, of Yucca Valley, was arrested on suspicion of felony sex offender registration violation and being a convicted sex offender in violation of annoying/molesting a minor under the age of 18.

An unregistered sex offender in costume and face paint was arrested at the Trick or Treat on Ramona Main Street event Thursday evening after he was seen passing out candy and was accused of annoying children, according to Sheriff's Sgt. Brent Strahm.

Danny Shaw, 29, of Yucca Valley, was arrested by Ramona Sheriff's deputies on suspicion of felony sex offender registration violation and being a convicted sex offender in violation of annoying/molesting a minor under the age of 18.

Off-duty Sheriff's Sergeant Thomas Seiver pointed deputies to a suspicious person that was "approaching and annoying children" near the corner of Main Street and Montecito Road.

Shaw reportedly approached parents who were walking with their kids, and persistently insisted on giving the children candy, which was declined. As one group of parents turned to walk away, a nearby witness watched as Shaw slid candy into a candy bag carried by one of children, according to Strahm.

The Sheriff's Dept. reported that there were 750-1000 youth at the event at the time of the arrest, about 5:45 p.m.

Shaw told deputies he moved from Oregon to California in February, 2013, and didn't register as a sex offender as required by law, according to Strahm.
