Update: One Deceased in Head-On Crash Involving Motorcycle, SUV

One person was fatally injured Sunday morning in a head-on crash between a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle on State Route 79 south of Julian, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly before 9:35 a.m. Oct. 13 on the 79 between Coulter Ridge and KQ Ranch Road, the CHP reported. A 27-year-old female from Michigan, was riding a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, northbound, lost her balance and ejected on the road directly into the path of a 2004 GMC Yukon driven by a 43-year-old male from San Diego.

The GMC attempted to avoid the downed motorcyclist by swerving to the left, but the right front tire drove over the motorcyclist, the CHP reported. She was transported to the Palomar Medical Center by Mercy Air 5 where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the GMC was uninjured.

No drugs or alcohol were suspected in this collision, according to CHP.
