A 7-year-old boy was transported to Rady Children's Hospital with moderate, non life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon after being struck by a truck on 14th Street at Realty Road, California Highway Patrol reported.

Officer Jeff Christy said the accident occurred around 7:50 a.m. when the child and a group of kids were walking southbound on 14th Street to a bus stop. An 84-year-old man driving a Dodge truck was headed northbound on 14th Street when he made a left-hand turn onto Realty Road, Christy said.

According to the CHP officer, the 7-year-old child failed to yield to the truck and was essentially side-swiped by the vehicle, but never run over.

The children weren't in the intersection, Christy said, and alcohol was not involved, nor were any citations given.
