Candlelight Vigil Held for Slain Ramona Man; Suspect in Custody

Friends and family gathered at the soccer fields Wednesday night to remember Michael "Gabe" Hallmann.

At least one person was in custody Thursday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Ramona man in Chollas Creek last September, according to the victim's mother.

San Diego police found Michael "Gabe" Hallmann, 34, with several stab wounds in front of a home in the 5000 block of Sterling Court around 5:30 a.m on Sept. 30., and he died in a hospital less than two hours later.

At a candlelight vigil organized by his family in Ramona Wednesday night, Hallmann's mother, Jennifer Hallmann, said police called her three hours earlier to say one person had been arrested on suspicion of murder, and more arrests were possible. Police have yet to disclose a possible motive, but robbery was ruled out, she said.

It appeared to be a case of someone being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Jennifer Hallmann said, adding the family has no idea why Hallmann, a licensed massage therapist who grew up in Ramona but last lived in San Diego, was in the Chollas Creek neighborhood.

Wednesday night's vigil, held at the Ramona soccer fields where Hallmann played as a youth, was originally scheduled to ask for the public's help with solving the slaying. Hallmann's mother said anyone who knows anything about the stabbing is still urged to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-
8477.
