Bloody Clothes Marked Suspects in Beating, Robbery of Transient, 65

Deputies found two transients matching description given by victim near ARCO gas AM/PM market.

Two Ramona transients had blood on their hands when they were arrested in the beating and robbery of a 65-year-old man Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The suspects were identified as Jimmy Dean Freeman, 53, and Mark Anthony Pinales, 50, said sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Rylaarsdam.

“When contacted, both suspects had fresh blood from the attack on their persons and clothing,” Rylaarsdam said.

The victim, also a transient, told deputies he crawled to the AM/PM Mini Market in the 1000 block of Main Street after being beaten by two men behind the store.

“During the attack, the men took several $20 bills from [the victim], who was able to provide a clothing description and said he knew one of the suspects as ‘Mark’ or ‘Marcus,’” Rylaarsdam said.

Deputies checked the area and found suspects matching the clothing description given by the victim, Rylaarsdam said.

The victim was treated by CalFire at the scene for a laceration above his left eye; he declined to go to the hospital.

Pinales and Freeman are set for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in El Cajon Superior Court on charges of second-degree robbery, according to jail records. They both are being held on $50,000 bail.

A records check revealed Freeman was a parolee at large from San Diego. Jail. The continuing investigation will be handled by detectives assigned to the Ramona Substation.
