Arrest Made in Attempted Restaurant Robbery

A 34-year-old man is in custody for attempting to rob the KFC on Main Street Friday night.

For the second time in less than 24 hours an armed robber struck a Ramona business Friday, but this time deputies quickly arrested a suspect.

Just after 8 p.m. a man armed with a handgun forced open an interior door at and demanded an employee open a cash drawer, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Christina Bavencoff. The suspect fled the restaurant without any cash.

Deputies spotted a man that fit the description of the suspect and chased down 34-year-old Raul Cruz, according to Bavencoff. Cruz was taken into custody and arrested on multiple charges including armed robbery.

Early Friday morning another business on Main Street was robbed by an armed gunman. Sheriff’s detectives are searching for a suspect that and fled with an undetermined amount of cash. Cruz does not match the description of the suspect.

The two robberies are not thought to be connected with a believed to have been committed by the same suspect.
