Arrest Made in 1977 Santa Ysabel Cold Case

Deputy federal marshals arrested Carmen Aguilar, 60, who allegedly shot a man in Santa Ysabel during an argument 36 years ago.

A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred 36 years ago near Julian was captured today in Arizona.

Deputy federal marshals arrested Carmen Aguilar, 60, near Phoenix shortly before noon, San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Glenn Giannantonio said.

Aguilar allegedly shot Eriberto Landeros on June 19, 1977, during an argument in Santa Ysabel, the lieutenant said.

Details about the case, including the nature of the dispute and Landeros' age, area of residence and relationship to Aguilar, if any, were not immediately available.

Aguilar had been living in Arizona for several years, according to Giannantonio. The suspect was expected to be extradited to San Diego to stand trial for the slaying.
