30 percent containment Monday. Heat and erratic winds hamper firefighting efforts, Cal Fire reports.

Original story:

A 450-acre brush fire that destroyed a structure Sunday in a rural area northeast of Campo prompted evacuations of 150 residents and a casino, according to Cal Fire and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The brush fire was reported in the vicinity of Old Highway 80 and Miller Valley Road in the Boulevard area.

There also was a report by East County magazine that some residents had been without power in the area Sunday.

The fire grew to 450 acres by about 9 p.m., with zero containment. High temperatures, and erratic winds hampered firefighting efforts, according to Cal Fire spokeswoman Roxanne Provaznik Sunday night.

Residents in the 37000 block of Old Highway 80 and those on Church and Crestwood roads near the fire were asked to head east from the area, according to a sheriff's department dispatcher. Sheriff's officials worked to initiate a reverse 911 system to notify those in the affected area, she said.

Provaznik said Golden Acre Casino also was evacuated as a precautionary step. Earlier in the day, residents had been directed to go there for safety, according to a sheriff's dispatcher.

San Diego Gas and Electric was called out because the fire affected power lines in the area, according to Cal Fire.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation and no injuries were reported, spokesman Mike Mohler said.

Smoke was visible on Interstate 8 near the Crestwood Road off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol, who said all westbound traffic on Old Highway 80 east of Royal Road was blocked at one stage.

A second fire erupted near Valley Center, near North Lake Wohlford Road and Woods Valley Road at about 4 p.m.  This fire was approximately 25 acres in size as of 6 p.m. Sunday.
