Weekly Antique Find: Come Sail Away

The wooden ship wheel retails for $150.

I know what you're thinking—what the helm am I going to do with an old ship wheel? But trust me, this antique from the Ramona Antique Fair-Original Old Town has so many uses.

This large ship steering wheel caught my eye amongs the many hidden treasures inside the deep warehouse off Main Street. It's wooden and in spectacular shape.

For the sailors at heart, it might make for nice wall art in an open living room, or leaned up against a stand-up mirror in a sailor-themed bathroom.

However, the way I would repurpose this antique is finding a round piece of glass to fix over it and construct a stand: voila! Steering wheel side-table for the couch or bed!

Are you a former or current sailor? Do you like this piece? What would you do with it?

  • What? Wooden ship wheel.
  • Where? Ramona Antique Fair-Original Old Town at 734 Main St.
  • How much? $150.

Don't forget to check out our past antique weekly finds, like these worldly bookends or cute ceramic cowboy boots!
