Ofusina Ross Dies at 64; Leaves Behind Many Siblings, Extended Family

Born in American Samoa, Ross came to the U.S. as a teenager and raised her family in Ramona.

Ofusina Ross, 64, of Ramona, passed away on July 16, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in American Samoa on July 20, 1948 to Mata’afa Tauese Otineru Tamaseu and Fiaapia Osase Lima Tamaseu and was one of twelve children.  

She came to the United States as a teenager where she lived, worked and raised a family. She married J. Vance McKinney and they had three sons. She has attended the Samoan Christian Church in San Diego since she was 37 years old and has been a member of the Mafutaga Tina and the Aufaipese. She loved her church and church family.

Through the years she worked as a Nurses Aide and the latter part of her working career as a Warehouse Foreman with Sony Electronics. She retired from Sony in 2009 after 19 years of valued service.

Ofusina was pre-deceased by her parents, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her three sons, Julian Vance McKinney III and Sean McKinney (both of Ramona, CA) and Shannon Tama McKinney (of Mays Landing, NJ). She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Anthony AJ McKinney and Julian Vance McKinney IV (both of San Diego, CA) and Jordan Lawrence McKinney (of Columbiana, Ohio). 

She will be missed by her two brothers Piliafi MTO Tamaseu (of Temecula) and Pino MTO Tamaseu (of American Samoa); and six sisters, Toto’a Papalii Futialo (of Hawaii), Lemala Uoma Watson (of Georgia), Emi Ima Faraimo (of New Zealand), Mata’afa Vaolele Tapua (of Hawaii), Talaleu Key and June Thompson (both of American Samoa).

A viewing will be held at Bonham Bros & Stewart Mortuary on 12th and D St., in Ramona, on Monday, July 22 from 2–5 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 5 p.m.
