Shaw's "folk art" series incorporates the yearning for a simpler time and place. Nostalgia is now becoming more popular and engages the imagination of people of all ages. The simplicity of the past is the crux of this Folk Art series - emphasizing everyday country life. Color and line are used to express basic emotions and connections between subjects, whether people, animals or everyday objects. Shaw remarks, "These paintings express my vision of "shared" basic experiences and relationships, which have remained unchanged even as society modernizes. They express the nostalgia of my childhood imaginings
and hopes of what life and people should be. It is both a naïve view of life, and yet a sophisticated re-imagining of what could be in an ideal world. We all carry within us our own utopia."
