Windy Weather to Continue Through the Weekend

Gusts could reach 50 mph in parts of Ramona Saturday night, says the National Weather Service.

Strong, gusty winds blew across the San Diego County mountains, valleys and near the coastal foothills Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS issued a high wind warning for the mountains and valleys that will remain in effect until 2 p.m. Forecasters predicted winds of between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 through Sunday morning.

The strongest winds were expected through and below passes and on coastal mountain slopes, according to the NWS.

Wind peaks in Ramona as of 12:30 p.m. Saturday include 29 mph at the , 26 mph in central Ramona and 34 mph near . SDG&E is reporting no power outages in the area as of 12:30 p.m.

Wind speeds of 30 mph were recorded at Palomar Mountain at 9 a.m. and 47-mph winds were reported in Santa Ysabel at 6 a.m. Julian reported 29-mph winds and gusts of 35 mph were recorded in Descanso at 9 a.m. according to the NWS.

Wind speeds of 36 mph in Alpine were recorded and 41 mph winds were recorded in Potrero Saturday morning. Gusts of 42 mph were reported blowing across the Sunrise Highway, near Pine Valley, about 8 a.m., the NWS said.

The northeast breezes were brought on by surface high pressure over the Great Basin, the NWS said.

The National Weather Service forecast for Ramona:

Saturday Afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 78. Breezy, with an east wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 46. Windy, with an east wind between 25 and 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 83. Breezy, with an east wind between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 44. East wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
