Update: Motorcycle Crash Kills 1 on SR 79

Three bikes crash east of Julian just before noon Saturday.

A 53-year-old San Diego man was killed Saturday on state Route 79 just east of Julian after he was ejected from the motorcycle he was driving and was struck by another motorcycle, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Rogelio Malihan was riding southbound with his son and a friend just before noon when the lead bike stopped due to traffic near Pine Hills Road. Malihan slammed on the brakes and went down into the northbound lane, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The other motorcycle tried to avoid hitting Malihan but struck him, inflicting severe trauma and leaving him without a pulse, according to a medical examiner’s report.

Responding emergency personnel attempted cardiac life support, but Malihan was declared dead at the scene.
