HR-2634 Addresses Agent Orange Contamination

We owe it to the victims on both sides of the Pacific. Then and only then can we start to stand tall, facing some of the wrongs that we have set upon so many innocent people.

It’s been a long time coming.

Finally we have proposed legislation in Congress that will provide support for victims of Agent Orange as used in Vietnam. Hard to believe I know, 35 years after the war was ended we can now address the multitude of lives adversely affected by Dioxin contamination.  If you have never known anyone contaminated by this stuff you would be lucky.  The illnesses include slow and painful death, compounded with genetic defects that carry it from generation to generation.  In Vietnam, our Air Force sprayed 20 percent of the forested land over a nine-year period, contaminating the water and land, and still it destroys Vietnamese lives with frightening birth defects.

This problem is finally being addressed with HR-2634.IH Victims of Agent Orange Relief Act 2011, by Bob Filner, 51st Congressional District.  This bill provides assistance to U.S. veterans and their families and to Vietnamese victims as well as remediation of the contamination hot spots.  This is the least we can offer after destroying the lives of so many people.  http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.2634:

While this legislation is long overdue, it cannot become law without the support of a majority of Congress members and senators.  Thus it is imperative that we as individuals contact our representatives and ask that they co-sponsor and support HR-2634.IH, Victims of Agent Orange Relief Act 2011.  We owe it to the victims on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.  Then, and only then, can we start to stand tall, facing some of the wrongs that we have set upon so many innocent people.
