Unicorn Books and Gifts Moves Down Main

The unique book store has moved into a larger space and offers a bigger variety for Ramona readers.

Unicorn Books and Gifts was always a great stop for books and local jewelry, but with their new and expanded space, owner Stacy Bart says things are kicked up a notch.

"It's like our old store, but with a punch," Bart told Patch. "We stepped it up."

The bookstore, which used to sit in a small space at 780 Main Street, has literally moved down the road, filling up some real estate between antique stores where Sandy's Shoppe used to sit at 738 Main Street.

"We've almost doubled in size," Bart said. "We had grown out of our old space."

And the proof of expansion is in the selection. The storefront boasts a wide selection of new books, ranging from fiction, to non-fiction to health and lifestyle. And all of Bart's used collection of books still remains in the 1450 square-foot store.

"We pretty much carry what we had before, but now we can carry five copies of the newest release," Bart said. "We can store more, we can carry more, we can have book clubs."

Bart said her children's corner, which includes a fun mural of a reading dragon, has more choices now and that kid readings are something she hopes to be of a regular existence in her new joint.

"We have some kid readings coming up," she said. "I'm hoping to get some classic games in here... chess, checkers, jacks."

The new store has a cozy reading corner and tea for those looking to sit down with a good book and dive in.

"We created a nice space to sit down and read," Bart said, noting that she's still setting up shop and hopes to add plenty more comfy chairs and nooks for all the bookworms. "We want it to be more of a community hubbub—grab a cup of tea and sit down and read."

The Florida-native said that she's focusing on bringing even more local artists to her shop—she already brings in local health gurus, jewelry makers, artists and artisans.

"I'm looking for more books about Ramona," Bart said. "I have some here, but I want more!"

The new location for Unicorn Books and Gifts has only been open since Jan. 5 and Bart will celebrate one year of business on Jan. 15. She's holding a grand re-opening celebration after hours on Jan. 18 from 6-8 p.m. for those who want to check out the expanded space and the new events (like chakra and an angels lecture) Unicorn has to offer.

Unicorn Books and Gifts, now located at 738 Main Street, is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
