Open for Business: Starbucks

The international chain has opened its doors on Main Street.

Sure, most people love a Starbucks' frappuccino or some Pike Place roast, but until last week, Ramonans' access to the coffee giant was limited to a small space inside 's.

Now, the international chain also sits in a spacious building next to the at 1315 Main Street. The popular coffee shop opened Aug. 24 and even has a drive-thru for those rushing to school or work in the morning.

Ramona's Starbucks moves into town with mixed feelings from residents. Local coffee shop owner Nickie Daniels, of , said on Ramona Patch's Facebook page that she's not opposed to the Starbucks or worried of the competition the chain may bring her local business.

"There's a difference between a high quality coffee shop and a Starbucks," Daniels stated. "I feel blessed to be in a town that is so supportive of its small business owners."

Other residents expressed joy over the opening of the coffee chain, and were surprised that it was open already, as it was slated to open in the fall. Still, others said on Facebook that they would remain loyal to local favorites, like Daniels' Cup O Joe and Nora Seidl's .

Starbucks on Main Street near the library is now open for business. Will you go there for your java fix? Vote in the poll and leave a comment on your feelings of big corporation in our small town.

I would happily trade for a Trader Joes.

Starbucks is great, but we already have a drive thru coffee shop in Ramona. Support local business!!!! Buy your coffee from the Ol' Cup of Joe!! It is located right across from Sizzler.

Starbucks is nice however when you or your kids go around collecting donations for your school or team fundraisers, don't forget its your local small business owners that generally are the ones that give. So if you don't mind asking for donations, don't mind spending your money there. How many families kids saw Santa @ Packards for their Toy drive? New is nice but don't forget about the old coffee shops that have been around.

My opinion is that Ramona needs more meeting places or businesses where you can just hang out or meet with a friend, whether you are 16 years of age or 60 years old. I love sitting outside with a friend when the weather permits. I would be more than happy to meet at a Ramona-owned business if it met this criteria but our town seems to hold back on creating more social -friendly atmospheres, therefore I will meet at Starbucks and I do frequent Packards on Main.

I have out door seating with umbrellas that lots of people hang out at but you are right seating is always a concern and one I hope to be able to address in the near future

Don't feed corporate greed. Get your coffee at Ol Cup of Joes, the Java Hut, or Packards and support locally owned businesses.

You're kidding right? How many people does Starbucks employ compared to all three businesses you mention? Does ol cup of Joes, Java Hut or Packards offer anywhere near the benefits that Starbucks does? Time for smart growth, Any business coming to Ramona will add jobs. Your corporate greed theory does not add up in my way of thinking.
