From Cheers to Leahy's: What's the Story Behind the Name Change?

Residents have been wondering if Cheers of Ramona has been taken under new management due to a recent name change.

If you've driven past Cheers of Ramona off Highway 67 recently, you've probably noticed the new sign out front naming the building: "Leahy's."

Did Cheers get bought? Is it under new management? Do they still have the same cowboy burger?

These are the types of questions residents were asking and Patch went on a mission to find out.

Sean Leahy, owner of Cheers, said the sudden name chance took place on March 6 and was meant purely as a St. Patrick's Day promotion.

"It got people talking so much that I kind of liked it and left it up there for a couple more weeks," Leahy said. "It will go back to Cheers—more than likely."

The joint is still serving up the burgers we all love, but Leahy said the response to the temporary name chance has been somewhat of a mixed bag.

"It's been controversial... which is really kind of cool," the restaurant owner said. "Some people really like it and some people don't. It's been kind of fun because everybody's talking about it."

Leahy said the signage will come most likey come down in the coming weeks, but he has no regrets behind the fun promotion.

"It's been really cool."
