Big 5 Opens for Business in Ramona

Shoppers check out the winter sports gear during the Thanksgiving weekend sale.

Ramona's long anticipated Big 5 sporting goods store opened at 1312 Main Street on Wednesday.

It was a "soft opening" followed by the official opening at 5 a.m. the morning after Thanksgiving Day.

Patch took this photo Saturday night, as people checked out the guns, winter jackets, circular sleds, bicycles, shoes and sports and exercise equipment.

The store has a sale on through Sunday.

Great to see a new store open up in town... though not too keen on them selling guns. Is "Fresh & Easy" still coming to Ramona, or did that opportunity die? Anyone know?

I love Big 5! Big 5 constantly has tents and flashlights on sale, important items for a disaster freak like myself. Probably Ramona has enough guns already, but I guess that sales will be brisk when they have them

LISA AND DAVE: PLEASE....LETS NOT GET ANAL. THE GUNS FROM PATRIOTS INSURED WE WOULDN'T BE UNDER THE RULE OF THE BRITISH BECAUSE SOME THOUGHT WE WERE TAXED TOO MUCH. THE GUNS STOPPED THE NAZIS FROM KILLING MORE MILLIONS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE. THE GUNS TOOK OUT ONE OF THE WORST TERRORISTS WHO KILLED 3,000 PEOPLE IN NEW YORK CITY. I'M THINKING BOTH OF YOU WILL RUN TO MY HOUSE AND WANT TO BE DEFENDED SHOULD THE BAD GUYS BANG DOWN YOUR DOOR. BY THE WAY, I'LL LET YOU IN....BECAUSE I CARE.... JOE MINERVINI

DAVE , SEE MY RESPONSE ABOVE. REMEMBER THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T WANT US TO HAVE GUNS.....THEY WANT TO HAVE THEM ALL. SOMEONE ONCE SAID "THE BEST DEFENSE AGAINST A THREAT IS A WELL ARMED MILITIA .... A "MILITIA" IN THE OLD DAYS, DAVE WAS KNOWN AS "YOU AND ME"....IF YOU ARE BRAVE ENOUGH TO DEFEND YOUR FAMILY AND NEIGHBORS. JOE MINERVINI

LOL JOE... okay, I promise to not be anal, if you promise not to overreact. I don't mind people owning guns (I realize guns don't kill people, people kill people) - that said, I think our town is already well armed. And I promise, I won't come running to you for help... you'd probably shoot me! LOL Again - happy to see Big 5 in town. Lisa

Thanks Joe for the offer to protect me! Ha Ha I am curious however why my comment that Ramona proably already has enough guns, and Lisa's comment that she doesn't like the idea of Big 5 selling guns, triggered you to feel that you have to defend your right to have them? I have no problem with you having a gun, as long as you don't threaten me. I really don't expect any Nazis or Al-Queda will launch an attack on Ramona unless they are being contracted out by the gun sellers, so they can sell more fear and guns. You ever get the feeling that someone up there is pulling our strings?

Lisa and Dave, This will be my last response because I have more important things to do. Lisa, I won't shoot you....the bad guys do that. Recently, in San Diego, a lovely woman was killed by her estranged husband....if she had a gun, she would be alive and he would be where he belonged. The aftermath of the senseless tradgedy is that there is a young orphan. Unfortunately, she did not have a gun...she should've gone to Big 5 and gotten one.....if she did and knew how to use it instead of being afraid of them, she would still be alive and there would be one less bad guy in this world. See David, not all the bad guys have to be Nazi's or terrorists. Just in case, I am prepared for any home invasion.....are you ? Joe Minervini

Considering the volume of firearms here in Romona, perhaps you and Lisa would feel safer moving to a community in Northern California where firearms are not so prevalent, like say, Oakland or San Fransisco... Oh and Dave, no there really is no such thing as "already has enough guns". Only someone afraid of their neighbors owning a firearm would think such a thing. If you can't trust me with a firearm, I can't trust you about anything. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of firearms." -- Thomas Jefferson.
