Avocados Get a Cool, New Spot in Ramona

The Avocado Stand, owned by Powegian Ivan Cobarrubias, is open for business at 2037 Main Street.

For the past year, Ramonans coming into town on Highway 67 have seen the roadside stand selling piles of avocados; and now, they have their very own (and very cool) stand to call their own.

The Avocado Stand, owned by Powegian Ivan Cobarrubias, is open for business at 2037 Main Street.

Cobarrubias said the small space used to once be a deli shop and then a coffee shop, but now it acts as a large refrigerator for the many avocados and fruits he houses there.

"We've been selling near Dye Road for about a year, and everyone always called us the 'avocado stand' so we called it that," Cobarrubias said. "We sell them year-round."

The Avocado Stand gets many of their avocados from local farmers in Fallbrook and Valley Center and while the small shop is filled mostly with the creamy, green fruit, other seasonal goodies are popping up.

Cobarrubias said the citrus comes from various farms, mostly in California, and the local honey — sold in large mason jars — comes from Imperial Valley.

"We try to see what works," Cobarrubias said about their selection. "We experiment and see what the customers like."

The Avocado Stand is open every day of the week from 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
