Ace Hardware Opens in San Diego Country Estates

Local residents are pleased to have a hardware store close to home.

Just in time for spring gardening, has opened behind the shopping complex in San Diego Country Estates. Owners Ralph Peebler and Jeff Fabian, both Estates residents, opened the doors at 2 pm Wednesday. Today they said they are tired but happy.

Shoppers interviewed by Ramona Patch said they're delighted not to have to make the drive into downtown Ramona when they need something in a hurry.

Vera and Higera Hugot of Rancho San Vicente were checking out the sale items brochure on their way in the door Thursday morning.

Lenny and Sheri Arnoth of Santee are remodeling two of their homes in the Country Estates.

"We've been remodeling for two years and now we're nearly finished and you're open," they joked with the owners on their way in.

"I think it's awesome," said Sherry. "I like the way they have things you wouldn't expect. They've got a full range of supplies, like a lot of cleaning and pet supplies — things you might need but not want to drive into town for."

"I've always gone into town but this will be better than driving all that way," said Lenny.

The store carries paint, plumbing, electrical and automotive supplies, as well as gardening and home repair tools.

And for residents ready to plant some spring color, there are pony packs at the front door.

Peebler and Fabian are still finishing up an outdoor patio and gardening area.

Developing the store has taken about two years. Meanwhile, a sign on San Vicente Road let residents know that "Ace Hardware is Coming."

Their grand opening in May will feature entertainment on an outdoor stage in the parking lot. Fabian and Peebler are looking for community groups, such as dancers and boy scouts, who might like to participate.

The entrance to Ace Hardware is off Gunn Stage Road.
