Two drivers sustained major injuries in a crash on state route 78 Thursday afternoon, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein said, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

According to the officer, a 2004 Chevy SUV and a 2013 Ford four-door sedan collided head on near mile marker 49 on highway 78 at around 12:55 p.m.

The drivers of each vehicle were the sole occupants, Pearlstein said.

No cause of crash was given, but the CHP officer said alcohol was not involved.

According to Pearlstein, one of the victims was transported to the hospital via Mercy Air.
