Found Money

Found Money

Isn't it great when you find money in a coat pocket you haven't worn for a while? Motivated by the nightly news, I went on a search to see if there was a portion of "lost money" that has my name on it. Yea! 25 bucks! Being held by the Ca State Controller's office. All it takes to collect is snail mailing in a form.

Puzzling though is the fact that the refund originates from Farmers Insurance. The company which has insured my house and vehicles since, like, omg, forever. I use a PO Box for my mail, and Farmers has had this address since I started using their services. I know they have this information because I get a bill from them on a regular basis that comes to me through this PO Box.

On the State Controllers website, in the spreadsheet matrix, is my name and address (po box), and the amount of the refund. So where did they get my address? No doubt from Farmers. And this brings up some questions. Why did Farmers give this refund to the State, instead of mailing to me? Why did the State hang onto the refund when they have my mailing address?

In this day and age, names + addresses + a bit of internet savvy = a phone number, and what, they couldn't call? or email? Perhaps the refund occurred before 2007, because on the Controller's website ( http://www.sco.ca.gov/upd_msg.html ) they explain that since taking this office, several new policies and procedures have been put in place to facilitate speedier "property" recovery. (thank you Mr Chiang)

Sooo, Is there some money waiting for you to claim? Good hunting!
