Where/when: Ramona High School, Ramona, 7 p.m., Saturday.

Why Go: To hear the high school's symphonic band and percussion ensemble perform, along with the Ramona Town Hall Brass Band, in a salute to Presidents Day.

Price: $5-15

BEST BETS, A LITTLE FARTHER AFIELD

Where/when: Courtyard Marriott, Rancho Bernardo, 7 p.m. Friday.

Why Go: To experience Mundell Lowe, a guitarist who has played with the likes of Charlie Parker, Andre Previn and Stan Getz. He'll perform with the Sandy Devito Combo.

Price: No cover, but $15 minimum for food and drinks.

Where/when: Warwick's, La Jolla, 3 p.m., Saturday.

Why Go: To satisfy your political curiosity. Whether you're a fan or a foe, Tea Party darling Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky, has been riding high since his November election. He arrives to promote his first book.

Price: Must purchase book to meet Paul.

Where/when: Poway Center for the Performing Arts, Poway, 8 p.m. Saturday.

Why Go: A fifties crooner comes back to life courtesy of "Rave On: The Buddy Holly Tribute." Billy McGuigan pays tribute not just to Holly, but also to other stars of the era, like Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry.

Price: $36-42; tickets for those under 18 are $5 with purchase of an adult ticket.
