Unicorn Books to Host New Ramona Author Saturday

S.D. Howard will be signing copies of her new book, "Charlee's Cards" on May 11.

Ramona has another reason to rave—a local author will be signing copies this weekend of her very first published book.

S.D. Howard will be at Unicorn Books on Main Street from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, May 11 to sign copies of her new book, Charlee's Cards.

Store owner Stacey Bart said she invited Howard to do a signing at her store not only because she is a local artist, but because her story resembles Unicorn Books, herself and co-owner, Julia Dammeir.

"Being local is what made it exciting. And the book is very much like it's set in our store," Bart said.

"Inside, Charlee's Cards offers all things spiritual, a hot cup of tea and lively conversation," (excerpt from the book).

The book, which is Howard's first published novel, has already received numerous rave reviews online and Bart says she read the book in one day.

"It kind of gets you going," the store owner said.

Set in a fictional town in San Diego, Charlee's Cards describes a small-town bookstore lined with planter boxes and the sweet aroma of various brewing teas. Regulars come in to hang out and discuss local happenings while Charlee reads tarot cards to curious customers.

Howard moved to San Diego in 1994 with "only what she could fit in her car," according to a press release by the bookstore. She found herself attracted to the foothills and small town living, bringing her to Ramona.

Unicorn Books is located at 738 Main Street. Additional details can be found on their website.
