Ramona's ChuckAlek Announces Homebrewing Winner

Travis Hammond's "Munich Helles" will be featured in the local tasting room.

After receiving more than 50 entries, Ramona's ChuckAlek Independent Brewers has announced the winner of its homebrewing competition: Travis Hammond's Munich Helles won over the tastebuds of the judges.

The June 16 competition was open to anyone with a passion for hops and a love for craft beer.

The local brewery said there were 54 entries from 22 participants with various brews entered: sweet stouts, pale ales, porters and German-inspired styles.

Hammond's beer will be served in ChuckAlek's tasting room, located at 2330 Main St., in the coming months, the microbrewery said.

Also at the June 16 event were Garry Pitman of Manzanita and Tim Johnson of Helms, who spoke to the homebrewers about brewing, getting into the industry and best practices.

Check out all the winners on ChuckAlek's website.
