Ramona Day at the Del Mar Fairgrounds will be July 2

While Ramona Rodeo is coming this weekend, it’s not too early to be looking ahead to June. It will be another busy month for Ramona, with some of our events taking place out of town.

The San Diego County Fair opens June 10 and runs for 22 days. Ramona Day at the Fair will be July 2.

Next month, Executive Director Craig Jung will be packing up displays, give-aways and other promotional items to haul down to Del Mar. The chamber will have two tables set up in the San Diego Pavilion, located across the big green bridge in the infield area.

Several local businesses will also have displays in the pavilion, and Ramona pageant queens will greet and meet visitors.

The theme of the fair this year is “Race to the Fair,” paying special tribute to classic auto enthusiasts.

Many people from Ramona will be entering such contests as table setting décor, woodworking, artwork, baked goods, photography, sewing and hobbies.

Another special day for Ramona will be June 26 when about 100 local dads and daughters will be in the spotlight at 11:30 a.m. on the Showcase Stage. That’s when the Dads & Daughters Dance Class from Ramona/Julian Academy of Dance will be performing.

Ramona 4-H Clubs and Future Farmers of America will be well represented in the livestock barns. Many of the youngsters move in during the fair, staying nearby in motor homes or setting up camp in the barn with their steer, goats, swine and sheep.

Ramona Country Fair will take place July 28 to 31 at Ramona Outdoor Community Center and Ramona Junior Livestock Show moves in the following week, overlapping a bit with the Country Fair. The dates are July 30 through Aug. 7.
