Ramona Actress Stars in Poway Production

A touching love story tells the true story of C.S. Lewis and Joy Gresham. In another love story, a couple weds after 25 years of friendship. And a former resident leaves freezing East Coast weather for a visit to Ramona.

Local actor Julie Clemmons Vizzard stars in “Shadowlands,” a true story about the life of English author C.S. Lewis, now playing at PowPAC, Poway’s community theater. Julie gives an exceptional performance as Joy Gresham, an American poet who falls in love with Lewis through his many works of children’s literature. She even blushes at all the right moments as the romance blossoms between the two writers. The play, set in the 1950s in Oxford, England, is a touching and inspiring love story.

Julie has lived in Ramona for several years, making the commute to theaters around the county for her acting and directing commitments. She made her acting debut on the Old Globe stage in 1980 when she was 11, playing Moth in Shakespeare’s “Love’s Labours Lost.” A favorite role, and one she performed in three different productions, is Puck in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. And keeping with her passion for Shakespeare, Julie was cast as Juliet in 1989 and Lady Capulet 16 years later, in “Romeo and Juliet.”

She has also performed in productions of “Chorus Line” and “Godspell,” showing off her musical talents as well as acting.

Patricia Frederick is in town this week, taking a break from winter in Connecticut. Husband Doug stayed home, keeping the fires burning and the driveway shoveled. On Monday, while Pat was enjoying weather here in the 80s, Doug was experiencing a high of 17, with the thermometer dropping to 11 degrees overnight. And, yes, it was snowing. Welcome back to sunny Southern California, Pat, even if only for a few days. You picked a good week for your trip.
