'Miss Ramona' Rehearsals Begin This Week

Applicants can visit the Ramona Outdoor Community Center Tuesday and Friday from 5-9 p.m. to work on the opening number, speeches and more.

Ramonan teens and misses interested in scholarships take note: Miss Ramona is currently in open enrollment and rehearsals begin Tuesday!

Miss and Teen Miss Ramona will be ambassadors to the community, staff member Stephanie Ogilvie said.

"It's not like Miss USA," the staff member said. "They go through an interview process which teaches them interview skills, they'll have on-stage public speaking."

Ogilvie said the "pretty part" of the pageant is still somewhat there, with a sportswear and evening wear portion, but the event as a whole is geared toward community service.

"The girls that win, they are hard-core community servants. It's not like beauty pageants, not at all," Ogilvie said.

Interested women can find applications for open enrollment online and Ogilvie said they should attend as many rehearsals as possible.

"That's where they get all their information on what goes on in the pageant," Ogilvie said. "We're gonna learn the open number, we're gonna work on speech, personal interview questions."

March 15 is the deadline for applicants, but the former Miss Ramona Pageant and current staff member said "sooner is better" for applying.

Complete information on Miss Ramona and Teen Miss Ramona can be found on the program's website and anyone with questions can email missramonapageant@live.com.

Rehearsals for the pageant begin tomorrow and will be every Tuesday and Friday in March at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center (421 Aqua Ln.) from 5-9 p.m. Contestants can get a packet of information at the rehearsals.

Miss and Teen Miss Ramona 2013 Pageant will be held April 6 at the ROCC. Stay tuned for more details and events regarding the scholarship program!
