Kids Learn Safety Basics At Ramona Library

Kids ages 5-9 gathered at the Ramona Library Wednesday morning to learn important safety tips from local law enforcement agencies, thanks to a program ran by the Sheriff's Department.

Ramona's Crime Prevention Department organized the program, called Kidz Watch, and brought out California Highway Patrol to teach about traffic safety, Ramona Fire Department/Cal Fire to instruct the kids on how to "stop, drop and roll" and even VistaHill Smart Care to talk about healthy habits.

Kids also learned animal safety (don't touch those snakes!), gun safety and graduated at the end of the free, three-hour class.

Ramona's Crime Prevention Specialist Barbara Wallace said the safety program is offered once a year and is a successful way for kids to learn how to be safe and avoid being a victim.

Sheriff's Lt. James Bovet awarded the kids with a certificate at the end of the program.
