Former Ramona Actress Appearing in Poway Play

Julie Clemmons Vizard returns to the PowPAC stage in its latest production, and the Verlaque House has a new designation from E Clampus Vitus.

Julie Clemmons Vizard is back on stage at Poway Performing Arts Company, acting in “Pardon Me, Prime Minister,” a British farce playing weekends through May 22. It’s a hilarious story about the hierarchy of British government working overtime in an attempt to eliminate sin from the British Empire.

Julie is never a disappointment in whatever role she undertakes. She was an incredible choice for the role of the frumpish Miss Forbisher, secretary to one of the prime ministers and secretly in love with another secretary, Mr. Campbell.

The actress is a former resident of Ramona, now living in Poway. While in Ramona, she led a children’s acting troupe and was also an active performer with a popular Shakespeare company in the county. She appeared on the PowPAC stage in January, starring in “Shadowlands,” the poignant love story of Joy Gresham and C.S. Lewis.

The Verlaque House has been designated a historic site by E Clampus Vitus. A plaque erected by the Squibob 1853 Chapter was unveiled April 16 in a dedication ceremony. Ed Ketchem of Ramona, “Noble Grand Humbug” of the chapter, led the ceremony.

The house, now a museum, was built in 1886 as a weekend home by San Diego wine merchant Theophile Verlaque. The French Provincial house and its surrounding property was donated to Ramona Pioneer Historical Society in 1986 by the family of the late Ona Ransom, the last private owner of the Verlaque House. It is located at 645 Main St.

E Clampus Vitus is a fraternal organization dedicated to historic preservation in the Western United States. Members of the Squibob 1853 Chapter recently camped out for a weekend in tents and recreational vehicles in a spacious field on Highland Valley Road.
