Motorists, meanwhile, faced a predictable rash of standard Southern California rainy-day woes. Between midnight and 4 p.m., the California Highway Patrol logged 248 accidents on the region's freeways and rural roads, including Wildcat Canyon Road and Route 67. By comparison, the agency generally responds to 50-75 crashes over a full day of dry weather.

Light to moderate scattered rainfall was expected to continue across Ramona and the county Friday morning and afternoon before moving off to the east in the evening hours and over the day Saturday, the National Weather Service advised.
